The Chronicles of Helena Dag

June 25, 1988
It turned out that grandfather had waited for her to come home. He wasn’t supposed to make it through Friday night, that is why Helena spend the weekend at relatives. But Sunday came, and grandfather was still amongst them. The last week of school started on Monday, so Helena came home. Before she went to sleep, mother took her to see her grandfather. He had asked for her and it wouldn’t take long for the family to realize that he had waited to see her one more time.
'Helena dear, wake up' mother said. She slowly opened her eyes and saw that mother had been crying. ‘Grandpa is dead, isn’t he?’ Mother nodded. ‘Can I see him?’ Helena asked. Mother told her no, they would all go to see him in the morning and that she should try to get some sleep.
Mother kissed Helena good night and went back to her room. Helena was wide awake now, so she got up and went downstairs, avoiding the squeaky parts of the old wooden stairs and walked to the now empty living room, when something caught her eyes.
